Akron teen shot himself after mistakenly shooting his friend

Akron police Lt.Rick Edwards said that two teens were killed Wednesday night in an accidental shooting and a suicide.

The two boys, ages 14 and 15, alongside a group of friends gathered in the basement of a home, on the 200 block of Grand Avenue at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday, when the 15-year-old pulled out a handgun and fired a shot accidentaly, the shot killed the 14-year-old boy striking him in the head.

Lt. Edwards said that after this incident, the 15-year-old turned the gun on himself, shooting his head. The two teens were taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The medical examiner's office will conduct autopsies. Police didn't reveal the victims' identities pending family notifications.
