Houston news, Texas news.

Promoting a Houston-area gun shop announcing a back-to-school sale has raised concerns that some believe the marketing strategy is a bad choice given the slight increase in mass shots, especially in schools, in recent years.

Michelle Simons was driving with her husband in Katy, Texas, when they doubled a sign indicating the Boyert Shooting Center: "Return of the school sale from August 13 to 18. Up to 50% savings on fire arms."

Simons said she felt the promotion was inappropriate following massive shootings in El Paso (Texas) and Dayton (Ohio).

Her husband, working as an educator, told the station that his school district was teaching him safety drills for active shooters.

Boyert Shooting did not immediately respond to messages requesting comments. "We have friends and family members who are teachers and the way we thank and thank them is to offer a summer promotion of discounted training courses, firearms and accessories.
