According to DuPage County police, a 43-year-old mother had fatally shot her two sons then set fire to the family property before committing suicide last Friday night.
Authorities discovered the three lifeless bodies of Jamie M. Jones and her 16 and 19-year-old sons, Jason M. Harris and Nathan A. Harris at around 9:30 p.m. while responding to a house fire report in the Elmhurst-area house.
On Sunday, DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick stated: "This is truly a tragedy. An act like this is completely inconceivable. This will be a trying time for the family, the community and our first responders who dealt with the aftermath of this horrible incident."
Following the incident, the victims' friends and neighbors expressed their deep sadness and grief and described the boys as great people.
