A Georgia suspect who had slapped his victim's throat so hard that it killed him has been sentenced to seven years in jail and 13 years on probation.

Adrian Herrera had pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the death of Tomas Rodriguez. The incident unfolded when the two men were partying at a child birthday on Dec. 3, 2017. Rodriguez called Herrera a derogatory name which sparked a fight between the pair. Herrera slapped the victim's throat, tearing his vertebral artery and causing him to die shortly later.

"I'm not going to justify myself," Herrera told the victim's family in court. "I'm here to face whatever you want to throw at me."

Herrera will report to prison in October.
