Salt Lake County news, Utah news.

A Utah mother has been arrested after she allegedly left her 4-year-old son outside in a hot car at night, according to Draper Police Lt. Pat Evans.

It was around 9 p.m. when a police officer discovered the sweating boy inside the car that had its windows rolled up. Temperatures reached 82 degrees at that time. The officer described the toddler's eyes as "puffy" and his head "hot to the touch" when he discovered him inside the car.

28-year-old Jesica Brown was questioned about the incident. "The child was misbehaving and that was how she chose to punish him, by locking him in the car," said Evans.

Brown has also told police that she had been using heroin and meth. A search to her house revealed a syringe and paraphernalia, according to the affidavit.
