About 500 migrants on the Mexican side of the border tried to reach the US soil overwhelming police blockades near the San Ysidro Port of Entry, Sunday.

Police said they arrested 39 people of them and they will be deported in their home countries alongside everyone identified by authorities.

The US side had used tear gas to disperse the migrants including families with children. US Customs and Border Protection said several agents were struck by projectiles thrown by migrants. This incident marked the increase of tensions mounting since groups of migrants arrived in Tijuana, few weeks ago.

In a tweet Monday, Trump threatened to close the border "permanently", describing a group of the migrants as "stone cold criminals," and urging Mexico to move them back to their countries.
