A woman has been fatally shot in the head through her peephole as she checked who was there according to police.
Wendy Martinez, 45, was at her apartment Saturday night with her teen son, when a masked gunman fired through the peephole. Her 14-year-old son ran to hide in a bedroom and called 911.
The woman was pronounced dead immediately, she didn't appear to be an intended target to the gunman. She worked at Lincoln Medical Center Hospital, according to neighbors.
Hector Flores, 54, a maintenance worker said the building is "safe, no drugs, no people hanging out on the corners", he added "To hear the gunshot and find out something like this happened here, it is shocking."
