According to the authorities, the man accused of killing a Californian police officer was hospitalized on Sunday for rubbing his head against the bed.

Adel Sambrano Ramos, 45, was placed under psychiatric supervision for 24 hours after returning to prison.

Ramos faces murder charges for the murder of Tara O'Sullivan, Sacramento County Police Officer, for the attempted murder of his training officer and for the illegal possession of assault rifles. He could be sentenced to death if convicted.

Ramos, who has a history of domestic violence, was transferred to the prison's psychiatric wing, where Deterding said, "We took extra precautions to make sure he does not get hurt like that."

O'Sullivan, a 26-year-old rookie police officer, was shot several times after being ambushed while in domestic violence. Ramos reportedly continued shooting at the police for 45 minutes after firing at O'Sullivan, preventing them from reaching him until they brought an armored vehicle.

Authorities said Ramos was heavily armed with assault rifles, a shotgun and a handgun and fired at agents for dozens of times over an hour before surrendering.
