Two Wisconsin brothers are being prosecuted following the death of a 5-year-old boy who mistakenly discharged a weapon while in their care.
Javonn and Jovonn Cannon, both 24-year-old, have been charged in connection to the toddler's death. Dakari Weldon was in the care of Javonn, the younger brother, in Jovonn's residence. The man went to smoke a marijuana cigarette when he left the legally purchased handgun on a bed next to the boy.
When he returned he found Dakari playing with the weapon: "He was in absolute shock when he heard the gun went off," the defense attorney Denise Hertz-McGrath said. "He had no idea the gun was loaded."
The brothers rushed the boy to a local hospital and left. Doctors called the police and reported the shooting death.
