Newly elected Dallas DA thinks the killing of Botham Jean should be considered a murder

5years ago

On the night of Oct.6, former police officer Amber Guyger shot dead Botham Jean, 26, in his own home while being off-duty.

Guyger claimed that, after a long shift, she mistook the victim for an intruder breaking into her own home, since she lived one floor below him. The officer seemed to be granted favorable treatment, her arrest was delayed without a reason and she was fired three weeks later giving her the time to delete any potential evidence of implicit bias toward the Black community and was charged with manslaughter.

The newly elected Dallas county DA John Creuzot said that the appropriate charge was murder not manslaughter. His predecessor Craig Watkins said he couldn't determine that basing only on news outlets, it may be "premature" or even "irresponsible" to make this statment.
