Maryville news, Tennessee news.

A Tennessee elementary school teacher had shot himself and his son before setting the house on fire, according to police.

A home inspector reported the fire to authorities on Monday morning when he saw smoke and flames. Firefighters recovered the bodies of 38-year-old James Reagan and 8-year-old Clark Reagan from the burning bedroom. Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp said that a handgun was also recovered and that both corpses had gunshot wounds. Investigators believe that the incident was a planned murder-suicide.

The father was a first-grade teacher at the same elementary school where his son studied. The child's parents were separated. The incident's motive was not immediately revealed.
