According to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department, a US Commerce Department official died Friday in a preliminary investigation that was called a murder-suicide involving her husband.
Police conducted a social assistance audit at the couple's home in Northwest D.C. on Friday. Upon arrival, they found a man, 51-year-old Jason Rieff, with a handgun that appeared to have fired a shot while on the scene. The authorities also discovered an unfeeling adult woman, Lola Gulomova, aged 45.
In their preliminary investigation, detectives from the Homicide Directorate stated that the incident was "domestic in nature".
Rieff was pronounced dead after being rushed to a hospital in the area. Originally from Tajikistan, she came to the United States where she eventually worked as NASA's Deputy Representative for Russia at the US Embassy in Moscow.
