A 27-year-old mother was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter in connection to her 2-year-old daughter's drowning in a storage bin in 2016.
According to prosecutors, Lin Li intentionally forced the toddler, only identified as Melody, to stand facing a wall for long-day hours. But when the child urinated herself, Li punished her by submerging her in a container in the bathtub. Melody then became unconscious and apparently not breathing despite her dad's efforts to revive her.
Following the girl's drowning, her brother told officers: "That's how Mommy punishes us."
Li was previously convicted of assault after she held her other child underwater just one day before Melody's death.
