A Sioux City man was sentenced to 30 years behind bars for his role in the death of a woman that was ruled fire-related.

Robert Mahoney, 52-year-old, was sentenced to 25 years for first-degree arson in addition to five years for involuntary manslaughter and to serve the two sentences one then the other.

The events occurred on Feb. 4, 2018, when Wanda Blake died as a result of the fire Mahoney set at the apartment complex. Prosecutors said that the suspect was bored and decided to set a small fire using a bug spray and a lighter. When the fire went out, Mahoney retried to light it again but this time ending up torching the entire residence and damaging numerous units at Central Apartments.
