New York City police have arrested a man who held an elderly woman at knifepoint after failing to kidnap a three-year-old girl from her mother in Queens.

Lester Augusto, 29-year-old, reportedly tried to abduct the toddler who was riding a scooter with her mother on 104th avenue but failed after good Samaritans intervened to prevent the kidnapping.

Attempting to escape, the suspect broke into an elderly woman kitchen and held her at knifepoint. He then tried to make his way to the front door where he was arrested by officers.

Augusto was arrested and booked into the 103 precincts while awaiting his charging hearing. The two victims, the toddler and the 61-year-old were not harmed.
