According to authorities, a police officer has entered his ex-girlfriend's office at the municipal education department in Rio De Janeiro and fatally shot her before committing suicide.
In a news conference, Education Secretary Rafael Parente confirmed that 43-year-old Debora Tereza Correia died from multiple gunshot wounds she sustained. Her body was discovered next to that of the shooter.
The officer acted normally that day as he entered the building and identified himself. He claimed that he wanted to speak with the victim whose office was on the third floor.
A few moments later, "the employees heard the shots and then found the two bodies lying in the hallway," Parente told reporters.
