According to authorities in North Carolina, an officer gave alcohol to a child aged 1 to 6 years. Police officer Robert Milton, 56, was charged with the offense of child abuse after the department learned on Wednesday that he had provided it to the children.
Milton was the biological father of one of the children and had already had a relationship with the other child's mother.
According to the police, detectives had presented the case to a magistrate, who had issued criminal summons that had been served in Milton.
Milton was placed on unpaid administrative leave. A separate internal investigation is underway to determine whether Milton has violated the service's policies.
