Barcelona passenger train landslide derailment left one killed

A commuter train carrying around 150 passengers was derailed near the Spanish city of Barcelona Tuesday morning at 6.15 a.m, leaving at least one dead and 44 injured.

In a tweet, the Catalonia Civil Protection claimed that a landslide in the village of Vacarisses, northwest the Catalan capital caused the train to derail.

The incident happened between Can Serra and Poligon Can Torella when the train came off tracks. Eleven ambulances have been deployed to the scene and eleven of the wounded kaken to hospital.

The train and its six carriages have been evacuated according to the Fire Department. Photos posted on the regional Fire Brigade's twitter account show the train derailment.
