Wichita news, Kansas news.

A Wichita father will spend at least six years of his life behind bars in connection to the agressive abuse toward his 2-month-old son.

After pleading guilty to aggravated battery and child abuse, the attempted murder charge that faces Thomas Avery Harper was dropped by prosecutors.

In a statement, Sedgwick County officials confirmed that Harper has received Friday six years and four months in jail sentence.

Harper was apprehended last October following a report of child abuse from Wesley Medical Center.

According to the child's mother, 20, the baby was in Harper's care when she left home for work. As she returned, she found the boy badly injured.

Harper intentionally put both his son's hands around his neck and squeezed in an attempt to kill him, prosecutors claimed.
