Severe thunderstorms hit northern Texas, Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas.
Seven tornadoes have been reported in the plains of northeastern Texas Panhandle in southeastern Kansas. Strong winds spilling utility poles, trees and power lines breaking down in parts of North Texas.
The National Meteorological Service has received numerous reports of hail striking areas affected by the storm.
The storms had to move Thursday in the Great South. Dozens of schools in Mississippi and Alabama dismissed students early as a precaution.
The threat comes days after dozens of East Texas tornadoes in Georgia have killed at least nine people.
