Death of an Illinois inmate ruled homicide

The death of a 65-year-old Illinois inmate has been ruled a homicide according to an autopsy report.

Larry Earvin died from blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen after he allegedly sustained 15 rib fractures and two dozen or more abrasions,hemorrhage and lacerations.

At least four Western Illinois officers were placed on administrative leave with pay since May 22, after they reportedly violated conduct standards: Sgt Willie Hedden, 40, Benjamin Burnett, 33, Blake Haubrich, 30, Alex Banta, 27.

Serving a six year sentence for a Cook County robbery, Larry Earvin was scheduled for release in September. After the altercation, he was taken to a regional hospital where he died on June 26.
