A boy who was “free climbing” in Snow Canyon State Park, who fell to death, been identified

According to officials, a teenager from Farragut, Iowa, died when he was "free climbing" in Snow Canyon National Park on Sunday. He was identified as Elijah Baldwin, 13 years old.

The teenager, along with his mother and other family members, visited Pioneer Names in Snow Canyon National Park over the weekend. At one point, Baldwin ventured alone and began to climb freely, "climbing the cliffs without using climbing gear or protective equipment," said Eugene Swalberg, public information officer in Utah State Parks. He suffered fatal injuries after falling from 75 to 100 feet.

After research by Utah State Park Park Wardens and Washington County Sheriff's Office officials, they found Baldwin who was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the statement, Park officials expressed their sympathies to the Baldwin family "in these very difficult times".
