Officials said that a police officer was forced to use his gun after being attacked by an armed man at a Florida gas station Thursday.
According to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Chief Chris Butler, veteran officer R.C Santoro opened fire at Jerry Marrero, 38, who died at the scene from the bullet wounds he suffered.
Santoro was responding to an emergency call from the gas station employee that reported an unknown armed man. Upon his arrival, he asked Marrero who was hidden behind the encounter to get on the ground.
Marrero then approached the officer and tried to stab him.
Santoro shot Marrero repeatedly for at least six times.
He was transported to the hospital where he was prounonced dead.
