Worker goes on rampage stabbing multiple people on board cruise ship in Alaska

A cruise ship worker was arrested Tuesday after he went on a stabbing spree against a passenger and multiple security guards in Alaska.

The 35-year-old South African employee, Ntando Sogoni, was first spotted trying to launch a lifeboat before being approached by security on the Norwegian Cruise Lines ship Encore.

Sogoni was brought to the medical facility for an evaluation where he attacked the nurse, grabbed a pair of medical scissors, and stabbed a passenger receiving treatment multiple times.

  • He also stabbed two security guards trying to stop him. Sogoni was eventually apprehended and confined to the ship’s jail.

    The accused employee had just joined the crew on May 5. Authorities said the incident took place while the ship was about 16.5 miles from Vancouver Island.

    The incident is being investigated by the FBI Anchorage Field Office, FBI Juneau Resident Agency, and the Coast Guard Investigative Service.
