Delaware State University on lockdown after 18-year-old woman is shot dead on campus

A fatal shooting at Delaware State University is being investigated after an 18-year-old woman was found shot to death on campus early Sunday.

Police said that the shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. outside the Warren-Franklin Hall dormitory building.

The victim was found suffering a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

  • Investigators said that the victim was not a Wilmington resident and was not a student at the university.

    “The DSU Police Department and staff will continue to take all necessary actions to ensure the health and well-being of our campus community,” a statement from DSU officials read.

    “Counseling services are available in the Tubman Laws Hall housing office.”

    The campus will remain shut down with all events canceled as the DSU Police and the Dover Police investigate the incident.
