Alabama man charged with murder after fatally shooting lifelong friend

An Alabama man was charged with capital murder this week after he allegedly shot his lifelong friend to death during an argument.

Raheem White, 27, stands accused of killing 28-year-old Byron McNeal Jr. Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was gunned down at around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Second Street North and Sixth Avenue North, Birmingham Police said.

  • Officers working near the shooting scene rushed McNeal to UAB Hospital where he was declared dead.

    “He was shot and killed by a lifelong friend due to an argument,” Police Chief Scott Thurmond said.

    “This was the second argument the victim and suspect had had on this day at the same location.”

    White allegedly fired shots at his friend from a vehicle. The motive of the shooting remains unclear.
