Teen driver accused of causing multi-car crash that killed woman, 3 kids in Renton

A teen driver remains hospitalized after he allegedly caused a deadly multi-vehicle crash that claimed four lives Tuesday afternoon.

38-year-old Andrea Smith Hudson; 13-year-old Matilda Wilcoxson; 12-year-old Eloise Wilcoxson, and 12-year-old Boyd B. Brown were killed in the crash that occurred at the intersection of SE 192nd Street and 140th Avenue SE, authorities said.

Four other people including Hudson’s two children were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

  • The King County Sheriff’s Office said that an 18-year-old man is currently “under guard” at Harborview Medical Center and is expected to face charges in connection with the crash.

    “It was a tragedy to me,” a neighbor who witnessed the wreck’s aftermath said.

    “It sounded like an explosion or a shotgun, and I came down, and I was just mortified.”

    Neighbor Paul Johnson added: “People speed through the light thinking they can make it, try to make the turn, they misjudge it, and accidents occur, though it’s never been anything like this before.”
