Sharp rise in the hate crimes according to FBI

The annual report from the US federal government released on Tuesday showed an increase of 17% in 2017, which means a rise for the third year in a row.

The report detailed that there were more than 7,100 hate crime, reported last year, with a nearly 23% increase in religion-based hate crimes.In anti-Jewish hate crimes were up about 37%.

Matthew Whitaker, the acting attorney general said that this report's informations were a call to action, as they document the rise of offences that are “despicable violations of our core values as Americans”. He added: “I am particularly troubled by the increase in antisemitic hate crimes, which were already the most common religious hate crimes in the United States.”
