California police are seeking the public's help to determine the mother of a newborn girl who was found alone in the middle of a California roadway.
According to reports, the hours-old baby was noticed by newspaper carrier Aurelio Fuentes Jr. while returning home. He first mistook her for an animal lying on the road before hearing the baby's cries: "And then, I heard the baby crying and screaming. I was like, 'OK, this is a baby. I gotta get out there'; God knows how long it's been out there, and it's below 30 degrees."
The baby seemed to be in good health after being rushed to the hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as her recovery continues, the Madera County Sheriff's Office said.
