New Mexico husband charged after stabbing wife, causing her severe wounds

A Las Cruces husband accused of stabbing his wife and causing her severe injuries Tuesday has been arrested and charged.

The incident happened on 17th Street when 43-year-old James L. Lawrence grabbed a knife at his wife in their apartment causing her several wounds in the back.

At around 1:15 p.m. , the suspect's wife was walking in the 17th Street, when her husband started approaching her and ordering her to go back to the apartment complex where he stabbed her saying: "The next time it would be deeper," court records said.

Lawrence who is believed to have mental issues faces charges of a third degree felony, fourth degree felony and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon against a household member.
