Sia Gaines, the 9-year-old boy's mother, said his son had bruises all over his body as a result of the blows with a thick leather belt. Kristen Haynes, the classroom teacher at George Tilton Elementary School, and her friend Juanita Tyler are charged with flogging.
The boy - who was not publicly identified - arrived at school on September 20th and was caught by the two women and dragged to the bathroom, the suit says. Tyler, 56, hit the boy several times with a leather belt provided by Haynes and slapped him with his hand open, according to the lawsuit.
According to the newspaper, Gaines, 31, learned of the incident when her sister took the child back to school and saw marks all over her body.
Haynes remains on paid leave while the school district completes an internal investigation.
