Chickasaw County news, Iowa news.

Jurors determined that an Iowa mother was guilty of her son's murder after neglecting the infant, leaving him days in the same maggot-infested nappy which caused his death.

Cheyanne Harris, 21, was found guilty of first-degree murder and child endangerment in connection with her four-month-old son's death. The baby was reportedly found dead, bleeding from his mouth, in his swing in the bedroom of her Chickasaw County apartment.

Autopsy results revealed that the baby died from malnutrition, dehydration and E.Coli infection caused by the infested nappy he was wearing for a long period. A forensic entomologist said that the infant was sitting in the infested swing for nine to 14 days.

Harris's attorney, Nichole Watt, said that the mother was suffering from depression and mental health issues.
