Escaped convicted killer caught in Las Vegas

The convicted killer who had escaped from a Nebraska work-release correctional center for at least 14 days has been caught Thursday night in Las Vegas.

The event happened on Jan. 26 when 40-year-old Anthony Gafford exited the prison without returning.

According to the Nebraska police officials, the suspect was charged of second-degree murder after entering a guilty plea and was sentenced to a 30 and 50-year in jail in relation to the 1997 killing of 16-year-old Jacque Holbert in Omaha. The suspect was 19 at the time of the crime.

State prison records showed that Gafford is believed to be free on Dec. 11, 2022.

The victim's son Jacque Holbert IV was found dead by a gun bullet at his home on Jan.20.
