A Carlsbad man discovered trespassing in an abandoned mine shaft has been charged with burglary Tuesday, according to the Eddy County Sheriff's officials.

Byron Williams, 37, faces charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal damage to property and criminal trespass. The suspect wasn't very cooperative with investigators and was charged basing on the other suspect in the case, Ashlynn Spencer's confessions.

"He really didn't give us a lot of information," said Lt. Matt Hutchinson. "So given information we received from the other individual, we charged him with those."

Williams is being held at the Eddy County Detention Center. "It's one of those cases that you look and you think that's different one. Somebody going into an abandoned shaft. It's unusual," Hutchinson added.
