An Indiana man filming a TikTok video in Puerto Rico fell to his death off a 70-foot cliff, authorities said Sunday.
Edgar Garay plummeted to his death off the steep coastal edge near a Cabo Rojo lighthouse. His body was recovered Monday by divers from the Puerto Rico Emergency Bureau.
The US Coast Guard said that the 27-year-old victim was on a trip to the southwestern coast on Sunday. He was last seen alive near the edge of the cliff at 5:37 p.m.
According to Garay's brother, the victim was with a cousin on the cliff and was warned repeatedly not to get very close to the edge.
“My brother had a TikTok account that he loved to upload videos to. Unfortunately, that was what he was trying to do when he was closer to the edge than he should have been.”
The brother revealed that Garay's body was found submerged in an underwater cave with severe injuries on the head.
Coast Guard Capt. Jose E. Diaz expressed his condolences to Garay's family and loved ones following the tragic incident.
“We appreciate the efforts of all the Coast Guard, Puerto Rico Police, and partner agency emergency responders, especially the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Bureau dive unit that was able to locate Mr. Garay's body in such a highly
inaccessible and challenging environment” added the Coast Guard Sector San Juan commander.
