A 4-year-old toddler died of flu Thursday after doctors mistook her diagnosis for a cold.

Ashanti Brielle Grinage experienced flu-symptoms for four days. Her parents took her to a Dallas hospital when she suffered a 103-degree fever. The next day, the hospital released the girl with over-the-counter medications. However, the following day saw her case deteriorating to the point of becoming lethargic. She then was brought back to the emergency room.

"We just knew she was very sluggish and she wasn't eating," Martell Grinage, the girl's father, told media sources. "When I think about my baby, that tears me down. That's what I was living for," he said.

The girl was lately diagnosed with pneumonia in the lungs and the flu. She died that same day at the hospital.
