Michigan high school student commits suicide after being bullied in school bus

News outlets reported that a Michigan boy took his own life in January after being bullied by his friends on the school bus.

13-year-old Michael Martin reportedly tried to commit suicide at his house in Lansing. Two days later, he was prounonced dead at the hospital on Jan. 25.

According to his mother, Janna Wohlfert, the boy was slurred at the school bus about his appearance and obesity. As a result of the bullying he was suffering, the eighth-grade student was absent for 33 days since September from Everett High School: "He was going through a dark time and nobody cared. Nobody paid attention to him," she said.

Investigation is still ongoing to determine the circumstances of the suicide.
