Veterans in rural areas such as Montana and Colorado have to wait long times for their appointments, the reason: there isn't enough health care workers to take care of them.
As the U.S. marks the national day for Veterans, we raise the problem that they face every time they need to meet a doctor. According the Department of Veterans Affairs, there is 40,000 vacant positions in the Veteran Health Administration, that serves around 9 millions veterans.
This severe vacancy cause long wait for appointments, create wait lists for artificial limbs and sometimes lead to unsanitary conditions.
Nearly 40,000 of the vacant positions are in the medical and dental stuff which is increasingly hard to find, hire and keep because of the low pay compared to the private sector.
