Texas man pleads guilty to murdering wife, drowning her in lake

A Texas man has admitted to the murder of his estranged wife who was found attached to 119-pound concrete block and thrown into a lake.

Rodolfo Montes Arellano, 36, entered his guilty plea to be spared the death penalty sentence for the 2016 murder of his wife Elizabeth Arellano, 28, who was planning to divorce him.

The victim was firstly thought to have committed suicide when she was found with a rope tied around her neck. Investigators later found in the husband's car remnants from the concrete slab to which she was tied. Witnesses described hearing screams from the Interstate 820 bridge on the day of the murder.

Arellano was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
