Houston news, Texas news.

Authorities said that the Texas death row inmate convicted of shooting dead a Houston police officer in 1988 amid an unsuccessful robbery was executed Wednesday.

61-year-old Robert Jennings died as a result of receiving a lethal injection. His death comes nearly 30 years after the deadly shooting of the officer Elston Howard, 24.

The suspect left a final statement to his beloved ones saying: "It was a nice journey."

He shot the officer twice in the head and continued firing at him as he layed on the ground.

According to witnesses, the officer has no chance to upholster his firearm. His lawyer requested the U.S. Supreme court to delay the execution claiming that his client has a possible brain damage and felt remorseful for Howard's killing which could save him from the death sentence.
