Chicago police said that the actor Jussie Smollett has been transferred to the hospital after being attacked early Tuesday morning in a possible hate crime.
The 36-year-old actor who is a cast member from the television show "Empire" claimed that he was approached by two individuals who yelled out a homophobic and racial slurs, The Chicago police department said.
The two unknown attackers poured an chemical on the actor before struck him in the face with their hands and wrapping a rope around his neck.
He was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and he is in good health.
"Detectives are currently working to gather video, identify potential witnesses and establish an investigative timeline", Chicago police states.
