Woman facing manslaughter charges after fatal shooting during friends gathering.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide after a fatal shooting in Anchorage during a gathering that involved a group of adults and minors.

On 1/22/19 around 12:30 a.m., Dispatch received a report of a suicide in the 1200 block of LaTouche Street. Officers with the Patrol Division found an adult male inside an apartment shot in the upper body. He was transported to a local hospital and died.

The preliminary investigation found that a group of adults and juveniles were inside the apartment. The victim pulled out a handgun he had brought to the residence. Multiple people began to pass the gun around and were handling it. At some point, the gun was being handled by an adult and a shot was fired. The bullet struck the victim.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where he died later. The man is not being identified pending next-of-kin notification.

Police believe that the gathering involved alcohol and drugs leading to the unfortunate event.

The suspect has been identified as Marilyn Tilo-Maiva. She would face charges of Manslaughter and Criminal Negligent Homicide.
