A man was arrested under a sexual assault warrant in the United States.
Officers from the St. George Police District Command have opened an investigation into the sexual abuse of a 21-year-old woman allegedly committed by a 35-year-old Nepalese in a unit in Carlton on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in the evening.
The man left Australia a few hours after the incident.
The officers were assisted by the international contact unit of the New York City Police Department, when investigators discovered that the man was in New York City.
The NSW police then asked NSW for a note and an extradition request was submitted to the Crown.
On Thursday, January 17, 2019, at approximately 9:20 am, the man was arrested by New York police officers in New York under a federal warrant.
The extradition procedure must already begin at the return of the man in Australia, where he will be charged.
