Family plans to sue Georgia school after teen charged for self-defense

5years ago

The family of the teen who was charged after defending himself against a bully is planning to sue the school that suspended him.

Jorge Santa-Hernandez, 15, faced five criminal charges in connection with the incident and was suspended from Harrison High School in Kennesaw.

On the last day of the 2017-2018 school year, the teen was bullied by two students who allegedly called him racial slurs and stole his food from his backpack before being sprayed by a can of silly string in the face. He then decided to fight back and stroke the bully.

In November, the Cobb County District Attorney's Office dismissed the charges against him. But the school accused the teen of violating the student code of conduct.
