On Saturday, January 12, 2019, at approximately 9:50 pm, boys aged 17 and 15 crossed the bridge at Victoria Street when a group of young men approached them.
The group then stole the couple's property and assaulted the boy, inflicting wounds on his face.
The police were called and assisted. On Sunday, January 13, 2019, at approximately 1:40 am, a 14-year-old boy was arrested after a foot chase.
He was transferred to the Maitland Police Station and charged with theft.
He was released on bail on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the East Maitland Children's Court.
The investigations continue to locate the other culprits.
