Two men will appear in court today after being charged with serious drug offences in Wollongong yesterday.

On November 2018, investigators affiliated with the Wulongong Police District created Strike Force Aperta to investigate illicit drug supplies in Illawarra.

The investigators identified two men as part of the operation and on Wednesday, January 9, 2018, at approximately 5:20 pm, before stopping them at a hotel car park in Ostenmor.

Police said a 39-year-old man had over $ 5,000 in cash and that his car had been searched for several containers of prepackaged methamphetamine. There is also a small amount of hashish.

The investigators obtained a search warrant and examined a hotel room in which MDMA, heroin, fentanyl and GBL tablets were found.

Another search warrant was executed in a Fairy Meadow home where MDMA, Suboxone, cash and counterfeit money were found. The men were taken to the Wulongong Police Station, where they were subsequently charged with several crimes.

A 39-year-old man was charged with several offenses, including the supply of illicit drugs - a large commercial quantity (x4), a direct criminal group, a proceeds of crime case, possession of a prohibited drug (x 2), possession or use of a prohibited weapon).

A 41-year-old man was charged with participating in a criminal group and the illicit drug show.

The men were released on bail for appearing in Wongong District Local Court on Thursday, January 10, 2019.
