Megan, the Duchess of Sussex, plays an increasingly visible role in the British royal family by becoming the patron of four organizations, including the prestigious National Theater.

Kensington Palace, London, announced Thursday that Megan would assume the role of godfather Queen Elizabeth II had held for decades and also took on two other roles.

The palace said the queen had "adopted" the role of the national sponsor of the theater and the Commonwealth Universities Association.

In addition, Megan will sponsor two other charities: Smart Business, which helps vulnerable women find job skills, and Matthew, a grassroots organization active in London and around the world.

Megan and her husband, Prince Harry, are expecting their first child this spring.
