Navy Hospital corpsman accused of stabbing man 40 times in Washington, D.C.

A U.S. Marine Corps assigned to Marine Corps Base Quantico is facing charges for stabbing a man to death at a Northwest apartment complex Sunday morning.

26-year-old Collin J. Potter, of Quantico, Va. was arrested on charges of first-degree murder. Potter is a corpsman, assigned to the base at Quantico.

Police say they were called to the 2800 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest just after 4 a.m., where they found 36-year-old Vongell Lugo in the hallway suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Lugo had been stabbed approximately 40 times in the neck, chest, and abdomen.

Potter admitted to being under the influence of marijuana and alcohol while committing his crime, he has revealed that he was taking revenge for his late girlfriend who has committed suicide.

police recovered two knives, one in a butcher block, and another was found in a sink with the water running.

the horrific crime scene was spattered with blood on the floor, ceiling, and walls.

in addition to his crime, the suspect confessed performing oral sex on the victim.

Potter joined the Navy in September 2010, he was assigned to The Basic School at the Corps' Training Command, at Quantico, Virginia.
