Mother, grandmother plead no contest in 12-year-old girl suicide death

The Oklahoma mother and grandmother who did not offer a medical help to a 12-year-old girl after she took an entire bottle of antidepressants on April 7, 2017 have pleaded no contest to second-degree murder.

According to the authorities Velva Diane Patterson, 60 and her daughter, Jennifer Christina Spurlock, 36 were arrested in April 2017 after an investigation was launched in the Alexis's death who died of an overdose while staying at her grandmother's home. When Patterson discovered her granddaughter on her couch intoxicated, she took her to the mother's home where they failed wake Alexis up. Patterson then left her daughter in the car sleeping overnight. She died the next day afternoon.

The mother was sentenced to 20 year in prison while Patterson was sentenced to 10.
