Woman pretends to be 15-year-old homeless teen to enroll in high school

A 32-year-old woman is accused of pretending to be a homeless teenager in order to enroll in a Green County high school, according to police.

Michaelann Goodrich told the high school administrators that she was named Riley Madison, a 15-year-old homeless teen. The Cairo-Durham High School was then required to immediately enroll the suspect under the McKinney-Vento Act that states that homeless children cannot be denied education.

Goodrich attended the classes on Dec. 20, but didn't show up on Dec. 21 after she told school officials that she had an appointment.

Investigation showed that Goodrich already had a diploma. Authorities are now trying to figure out what her motive was for the alleged accusations.
